Years breeding budgies:

I have been a Member of the Budgerigar Society in excess of 30 odd years. The first birds I bred were Clearwings given to me by the late Bob Gorman when I joined the old Western Area Branch (Now known as West Sydney). During that time I have bred Budgies on and off for that period of time. At the moment I have 12 Breeding cabinets in operation and this is the first time this has happened for some 7 to 8 years. My favourite varieties are Clearwings Black Eyes and Fallows. In the early days I had success on the Show Bench with these varieties and have 5 Novice points with just one too go.

What is the highest award won at any show in Australia?

I have never won a Major award but have been lucky enough to win variety awards. Many many years ago I was lucky enough to get a Blackeye in the top 5 at the State Team Challenge after being told that it should not have been in the team.

What would your advice be to someone wanting to get into the hobby and show Budgies?

My advice to anyone wanting to enjoy our great hobby would be to join a Branch and see what goes on.

There are many who join the hobby and are told your birds are not good enough to show and that is the last we see of them.

At Penrith Valley Branch we make everyone welcome and encourage
them to come and see what happens at a meeting and talk to our members and breeders and work out what direction they want to go.
